BRIAN EWING

Graphic Artist

After graduating from the Milwaukee High School of the Arts, Brian quickly escaped to the windy streets of Chicago to attend the American Academy of Art. After a year there he learned that the local Truck Driving School was always looking for new blood and that they often recruited from art schools, but sadly he didn’t have a driver’s license. The following year he returned to Milwaukee to attend The Milwaukee Institute of Art and Design, and learned first-hand why that place is so damned expensive.

Brian has been a freelance illustrator/designer for various companies, bands, publishers, and eccentric patrons. Here are a few gems - STAR WARS, BUDWEISER, HUSTLER, DC COMICS, SAMSUNG, VAGRANT RECORDS, CHANNEL 4 CREATIVE, CINGULAR, THE NEW YORKER, SPIN, EMI, SPRINT, CLEAR CHANNEL, VANS WARPED TOUR, ATTICUS CLOTHING, MARVEL COMICS, TASTE OF CHAOS TOUR, GUITAR WORLD, DRAGON CLOTHING, a BAJILLION BANDS, and a bunch more stuff. He’s never had a driver's license and dropped out of art school...twice.

Brian’s work has appeared in several publications, art books, movies, concert posters, skate decks, iPods, t-shirts, television shows, music videos, and even on people. His work has also been bootlegged to high heaven. Lucky Brian.

Brian started doing rock posters when he was a lowly copy jockey at a Kinko’s in Minneapolis, MN. The local music venue would bring in posters and flyers to be copied…and they were awful. He figured that he couldn’t do any worse, so he started doing posters for them - as a hobby, since they paid him in free tickets and drinks. Eventually he moved to Los Angeles, CA so that he could get a healthy dose of melanoma and road rage. Brian started to take the whole “art thing” seriously because of the usual frustration of having a boring day job in porn. With no creative outlet at his job, he decided to quit and see what he could do in the wide, wide world of the music industry as a rock poster artist. After a week of wondering if he’d made a mistake, he got his first paid job and hasn’t looked back since. He hit the ground running – ass to elbows.

Little did Ewing know that it would have lasted this long. With over 160 posters under his belt, he’s still got all of his teeth and most of his student loans paid off. The posters have opened a lot of doors for him. He’s been a guest artist on four music tours that took him across the country and to some place called “Canada.” While on tour, he was fortunate enough to sign posters and be referred to as, “that guy who drew that poster for that band.” That kind of personal interaction helped him gain a wider audience and keep it.

Since then, he’s branched out into designing t-shirts, shoes, art prints, and more rock posters. He’s currently working on the 2007 Warped Tour as the resident poster artist. This is his fourth year working on that campaign. He just finished designing a line of signature shirts for Atticus Clothing’s Spring 2008 line. He collaborated with Draven and got the opportunity to design his own limited edition shoe that will be available soon. He is following up a shirt, which he teamed up with Dragon Clothing to design, to help kick off their line of Artist Series shirts with a limited package consisting of a shirt, a wallet and a belt bearing his artwork on it.

Brian will be exhibiting his rock posters in Barcelona, Spain at the Bread & Butter trade show, thanks to Atticus. Later in the year, he will be teaming up with Atticus again to exhibit in London, England.

On top of all of that he will continue producing art prints and rock posters for various bands and record labels.
